According to Pan Wenbo, deputy director of the Plantation Division of the Ministry of Agriculture, as of August 21, the drought-affected area of crops in the three provinces and autonomous regions reached more than 41 million mu, of which 21 million were severely affected by drought. The drought is mainly concentrated in Fuxin, Jinzhou, Chaoyang and Huludao in western Liaoning; Chifeng, Tongliao and central Wulanchabu in southeastern Inner Mongolia; and some areas in western Jilin.
Pan Wenbo said: "These areas are all traditional arid areas with poor site conditions and weakened water holding capacity in hills and slopes. The drought-affected crops are mainly corn, with 86% of Liaoning's drought-affected areas being maize and Jilin 90% of the affected area is maize and 50% of the drought-affected area in Inner Mongolia is maize. "
At present, the northeast corn is in the filling stage, and the drought will cause the wilting of corn functional leaves, affecting the corn seed setting rate and filling rate.
Despite the heavy drought in the Northeast Bureau, Pan Wenbo pointed out that the current drought is only "slightly heavier than the same period of previous year", significantly lighter than the same period of 2009 when the drought was heavier.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture on August 21 agricultural dispatch, the current crop area affected by the drought more than 6500 mu. On August 17 last year, drought-affected areas in 10 provinces and autonomous regions in the Yangtze River Basin exceeded 1 billion mu. On August 18, 2009, drought-stricken areas reached 148 million mu.
Pan Wenbo said that the current situation in the country's autumn grain production is better. Making such a judgment is mainly based on three factors:
First, steadily increased planting area this year. Affected by national policies and market prices, the area under cultivation of cash crops such as cotton and oilseed has been reduced this year. The autumn grain acreage is expected to increase by more than 600 million mu, of which corn, rice and other high-yield crops increased by 900 million mu.
Second, the growth of autumn grain in most areas is better than the previous year. Spring weather this year during the meteorological conditions better, combined with the key technologies in place, most of the main producing areas of autumn and winter normal fertility, growth is generally better.
Third, the drought in some areas since July is a regional one, affecting the production of autumn cereal crops in arid and semi-arid regions without any overall impact.
Pan Wenbo said: "At present, drought-stricken areas in the drought-free high temperature, sufficient light, corn and other autumn crops better growth, but also to offset some of the disaster losses, autumn grain harvest did not reverse the situation."
According to the forecast of the Central Meteorological Station, the meteorological arid areas of Liaoning, Jilin and Henan will usher in precipitation in the next three days, which is more favorable to alleviating the current drought.
